Jeff Augen, currently a private investor and writer, has spent more than a decade building a unique intellectual property portfolio of databases, algorithms, and associated software for technical analysis of derivatives prices. His work, which includes more than a million lines of computer code, is particularly focused on the identification of subtle anomalies and price distortions. Augen has a 25-year history in information technology. As cofounding executive of IBM’s Life Sciences Computing business, he defined a growth strategy that resulted in $1.2 billion of new revenue and managed a large portfolio of venture capital investments. From 2002 to 2005, Augen was President and CEO of TurboWorx Inc., a technical computing software company founded by the chairman of the Department of Computer Science at Yale University. This is a bunch of problems that will test how well you understand your trading.. a very good learning too.
This is simply the worst book I have ever read on options, or trading in general for that matter. For starters, the book is literally nothing other than questions and answers and there isn't a corresponding book that teaches the information that the questions ask. Granted, the problems weren't too difficult regardless, but my main complaint with this book is that it is organized by a question and then right below the question is the answer. It would be much more advantageous to the reader to have a section of questions followed by a section of corresponding answers, which would allow you to actually solve the question without the answer being right in front of you.
From my perspective, this book was useless. In the author's defense, I never made it all the way through. When I saw workbook in the title, I assume there would be some useful text followed by problems to work out. this is not the case. It is literally a series of questions which appear to be quite random with no real information provided throughout. (Or at least as far as I made it.) When I was a kid, there was a game we'd play where you had to say whatever came into your head, without thinking. That's what this book was for me, completely random and not particularly useful.
The workbook really helps to ingrain the different ways to trade options and how to put the odds in your favors.

Jeff Augen is one of the most knowledgeable traders I have ever been in contact with. I have all of his books and have befitted tremendously from each one in a different way.
As a casual options trader, I was in for a big surprise when I first opened this book: you are in the deep end of the pool from day one. It's an advanced workbook for experienced traders."The Option Trader's Workbook" takes its role rather seriously. It's a "workbook" in every sense of the word; without exposing many details about key concepts like volatility or the Greeks, author Jeff Augen takes us immediately into question-and-answer mode. You're expected to have had the necessary basic exposure to these concepts in advance, and Augen's answers serve to analyze the details in depth.It's not at all unusual to be asked what is the value of 1 standard deviation price change given a certain implied volatility, or what the result of an explicit change in vega would be to the option price: the answer is absolutely enlightening, but you'd need to be an expert to know off the top of your head.This points to both a strength and a weakness in Augen's approach. What seems like an instructor's edition of a graduate-level finance exam is both enlightening and off-putting. Nothing about the format is engaging to a reader who is not in possession of the requisite skills. Reversing the format (expository text first, followed by a quick question/answer period) would have made this a useful Intro To Options manual for newer traders, and serve to sharpen the skills of intermediate-to-advanced readers.That said, it's a treasure trove of options analysis tools, advanced trades and fundamentals. You will probably make profitable trades if you stick with it, and you'll learn something too.
